A mortgage loan is a loan secured by real property through the use of a document which evidences the existence of the loan and the encumbrance of that realty through the granting of a mortgage which secures the loan. However, the word mortgage alone, in everyday usage, is most often used to mean mortgage loan.

A home buyer or builder can obtain financing (a loan) either to purchase or secure against the property from a financial institution, such as a bank, either directly or indirectly through intermediaries. Features of mortgage loans such as the size of the loan, maturity of the loan, interest rate, method of paying off the loan, and other characteristics can vary considerably.

To Jeff the Frog,
To truly understand a "mort" "gage" we need to go back to fundamentals.
The words in French mean "death" "gamble" and that is the essence of the
contract. "Gager" in French means to gamble and a "gage" is a bet. You are
betting the "equity" in your property against some future event. What is that
event? The event is either the death of the borrower or the death of the lender. If the borrower dies first, the debt is due on death (read your mortgage). If the lender dies first (gets dissolved) with out first assigning
the mortgage, than the borrower wins the equity of the lender.
This is why all these bailouts are a sham. The lenders overextended
themselves and leveraged their capital up to 100 times. Then, when they
got in trouble, and were about to die (go bankrupt) or be dissolved, what
did "our' government do? It intervened and put the lenders on taxpayer
life support so they wouldn't lose the "death gamble" and could go on fore-
closing on the real winners of this "gage" (gamble).
So for the lenders, it's "HEADS WE WIN, TAILS YOU LOSE"! Even Las
Vegas gives better odds than that. It's time for the gullible "sheeple" to
wake up, form political action committees and run for office so we can solve
this injustice.
