Some local Detroit activists and clergy members are demonstrating in the city today to kick off a boycott against Countrywide Home Mortgage, to protest what they term unfair lending practices.
The group, headed by Rev. Charles E. Williams II, president of the Mary Church Terrell Council for Community Empowerment, hoped to meet with representatives of the company at its Jefferson Avenue branch to request the canceling of subprime lending practices that the group says causes an extreme amount of foreclosures in Michigan.
Officials Countrywide Home Mortgage's national office said they were unaware of the demonstration and had no comment.
