In my humble opinion, what we are seeing is the beginning of the debt
bubble bursting. It hit real estate first, where lots of people were buying
on margin, zero to 3% down in many cases. A small decrease in price set
off a wave of selling (ie foreclosures which is analogous to a margin call).

I think the next bubble to burst will be commodity prices where again
there is a lot of speculation being done on margin. Once prices drop, and
the margin calls begin, we'll see a crash in prices.

The last bubble to burst will be the stock market followed by the whole
economy. Unemployment will soar as companies go bankrupt left and right.
The only thing the Fed can do is try to rescue the banking system so that
after the crash and debt wipe-out, a new economy can arise from the ruins.

The end result of all debt bubbles has been wide spread deflation and
depression. The laws of exponential growth have not been suspended be-
cause of the computer age. It can only go so high until it must crash. It's
at the door, even if hard to imagine what it will be like and how long it will
last
